CERA researchers honoured by Harbin Medical University, China

image-tools (87)Two senior CERA researchers were awarded honorary professorships at Harbin Medical University in China earlier this year.

Professor Jonathan Crowston, Managing Director of CERA and Ringland Anderson Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Melbourne, was named an honorary professor at Harbin Medical University. Head of CERA’s Surgical Research, Associate Professor Mark Daniell was named an honorary professor of the Eye Hospital of Harbin Medical University.

The professorships were conferred by Professor Yang Baofeng, President and Professor of Harbin Medical University, in honour of Professor Crowston’s and Associate Professor Daniell’s professional achievements and contributions to the university and hospital.

Professor Crowston and Dr Daniell travelled to China to accept the professorships, along with Head of CERA’s DrugDelivery Unit, Dr Hong Zhang. The visit was a valuable opportunity for the CERA team to discuss more direct and effective collaboration between the Harbin Medical University and hospital, and our own University of Melbourne and the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. This will include an academic exchange, student exchange, and resources exchange.

Professor Crowston said the honorary professorship was a great honour. “I hope that this professorship will strengthen our partnership with the Harbin Medical School and I look forward to closer ties developing between our hospitals and academic research teams,” he said.
