Associate Professor David Mackey
Associate Professor Mackey has extensive experience in ophthalmic genetics. After completing ophthalmology training, he worked at the Murdoch Institute, Melbourne, The Johns Hopkins Center for Hereditary Eye Diseases, USA, and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London. He now runs the genetic eye clinics at the Royal Children's Hospital and Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne. Twelve papers were published from work in his MD thesis on Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy. A/Professor Mackey has been productive in research into the genetics of glaucoma, optic atrophy and congenital cataract.
In 2000 he won the prize for best scientific presentation at the European Glaucoma Society Meeting, London. He was the recipient of the 1999 Royal Australian College of Surgeons Foundation Scholarship and in 1993 was awarded the Founders Cup for best scientific presentation at the Oxford Ophthalmological Conference.
