On completion of medical and postgraduate studies at Sun Yat-Sen University, China, she attained her Masters in epidemiology and PhD at the University of Sydney, as well as another Masters in applied statistics at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia.

Other concurrent positions

  • NHMRC Senior Researcher Fellow (Level B) and Professor, Centre for Vision Research, Department of Ophthalmology and Westmead Millennium Institute, University of Sydney
  • Editor-in-Chief of Ophthalmic Epidemiology
  • Primary supervisor of 4 current PhD candidates. Prof Wang has previously supervised 5 PhD candidates to their completions over the last 10 years.

Research Interests
Professor Wang's research primarily focuses on the interplay of environmental, systemic and genetic factors that jointly contribute to the development and progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Prof Wang actively contributes to a number of internationally collaborative research organisations such as the Three Continent Study Consortium, the Eye Working Group of the CHARGE Consortium, and the AMDGene Consortium. She has jointly led a number of research projects on AMD within these consortia. In addition, she also conducts research on other eye diseases or conditions such as retinal vascular signs in relation to systemic vascular diseases, diabetic retinopathy, myopic retinopathy and age-related cataract.
