The Impact of Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Third in a series of reports compiled by Access Economics for the Centre for Eye Research Australia Centrally Focussed reports and gives a dynamic economic model of the impacts of age related macular degeneration. Age-related Macular Degeneration is the leading cause of blindness in Australia and is responsible for half of severe vision loss, currently costing a startling $2.6 billion a year. The number of people losing their sight in their retirement years due to Age-related Macular Degeneration is set to double over the next 20 years and the costs associated with this condition will blow-out to a massive $6.5 billion every year.
