The Structure of the AMS CourseThe AMS year is designed to broaden the experience of medical students in health care and research. It combines both research and coursework in a field related to medicine. Units vary in format. Of a total of 100 points, the structure may comprise 100 points research to 50 points research and 50 points coursework All students must complete a research methods subject at the beginning of the year in either Qualitative or Quantitative Research, or complete research training offered by the unit. Research projects are overseen by assigned supervisors with appropriate expertise. To conduct some research projects ethics approval will be required. Research reports will be from 7,000-10,000 words in length, depending upon their weighting.
