Doctor of PhilosophyThe PhD program is usually based on a three-year research degree incorporating a thesis of 80,000 to 100,000 words. The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) is administered through the Melbourne School of Graduate Research. Doctor of MedicineThe MD program is an approved supervised program of not less than two years full-time research (or equivalent part-time) resulting in a thesis of 80,000 to 100,000 words. This research degree is for candidates who have an MBBS degree (or equivalent). Find out more about Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. Master of PhilosophyAn internationally recognised masters (by research) degree. Students produce a thesis of approximately 30,000-35,000 words, which is externally examined. The MPhil is also administered through the Melbourne School of Graduate Research. Find out more about Master of Philosophy. Master of MedicineThe Master of Medicine (MMed) may be taken as a one to two year research degree. Students produce a thesis of 30,000 - 40,000 words. Read more about MMed degrees.
