Prestigious appointment for eye donation advocate
The Association champions the restoration of sight through core services to advance eye tissue donation, transplantation and research.
CERA Managing Director Professor Jonathan Crowston said the nomination is a tremendous honour for Dr Pollock, the first Australian to be appointed to the Board.
“Dr Pollock and his colleagues are responsible for advancements in corneal preservation, increased utilisation of precious donor corneas and new surgical techniques,” Professor Crowston said.
“Under Dr Pollock’s leadership, the Lions Eye Donation Service in Melbourne supplies eye tissue for around 500 transplants annually and recently celebrated its 10,000th corneal donation.”
“The appointment is testament to these achievements and his tireless work as an advocate for eye donation.”
Dr Pollock is the Chair of the Eye Bank Association of Australia and New Zealand (EBAANZ). During his career he has established valuable partnerships with the Donor Tissue Bank of Victoria and DonateLife Victoria.
Established in 1991, the Lions Eye Donation Service provides donor corneas to patients who have sight-threatening conditions and require a corneal transplant.
