The Annual Gerard Crock Lecture celebrates Australia’s first Professor of Ophthalmology, the late Professor Gerard Crock AO. Professor Crock led the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Melbourne from 1963 until 1987.
A passionate innovator, Professor Crock invented ophthalmic devices such as the Schultz-Crock ophthalmoscope and introduced new microsurgical techniques into the field of ophthalmology. Above all, he was a consummate clinician who helped to save the sight of thousands.
