2012 Annual Gerard Crock Lecture
"The Eye is a Window to Your Health"
It has often been said that our eyes are windows to our souls but new research suggests that our eyes may also be windows to our health.
By taking an eye photograph of a patient, and using computer imaging software, we can detect very subtle changes in the eye blood vessels which are markers of early damage. This may potentially allow the prediction of cardiovascular disease years before it develops, allowing timely preventative action and treatment.
The 2012 Gerard Crock lecture will be presented by Professor Tien Wong, a multiple award-winning researcher with a focus on retinal vascular diseases. Former Managing Director of CERA and former Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Melbourne, he has published over 600 peer-reviewed Medline papers and has given more than 100 invited named, plenary and symposium lectures around the world.
