Professor Mark Daniell is an ophthalmic surgeon and leads CERA’s corneal research. He has a significant research interest in a bioengineered cornea, developing the concepts for this project and being the driving force gathering together the collaboration partners. He is also one of the founders of the Keratoconus International Consortium.

Dr Srujana Sahebjada is an optometrist and research scientist with a strong research interest in corneal disease, vision restoration and assessment of visual performance.rnrnDr Sahebjada, along with Professor Mark Daniell and Professor Paul Baird, established the Keratoconus International Consortium (KIC). KIC is a global approach entailing a large-scale, international collaboration to enhance the understanding of keratoconus, a corneal condition that can cause teenagers and young adults to go blind.

A/Prof Elaine Chong is the head of ophthalmology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, and is a consultant ophthalmologist in both the corneal and retinal units at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. As a Senior Research Fellow with CERA, she is investigating a new treatment for Fuchs’ endothelial dystrophy.

Professor Paul Baird is a Senior Research Fellow and heads the Ocular Genetics Unit at the Department of Surgery, Ophthalmology, University of Melbourne.

His interests are in the study of the genetics of eye diseases, particularly age-related macular degeneration (AMD), myopia and keratoconus and how genetics can be used to improve prediction models and treatment outcomes for patients using big data and artificial intelligence in precision medicine.
