Sarah, a former lawyer, has joined CERA from Save the Children Australia where she was National Manager, Individual and Family Philanthropy. She is excited about the potential of philanthropy to fund innovative medical research.

“In my short time at CERA, I’ve been privileged to meet scientists involved in many ground-breaking projects – from genetic research to the creation of a new diagnostic eye test for Alzheimer’s disease,’’ she says.

“I also really enjoyed meeting some of our committed supporters at our morning tea in March to celebrate the success of our Christmas Appeal. Seeing the impact of their generosity and how it enables us to continue our sight saving research is incredibly rewarding. I’m looking forward to further strengthening our sense of community at CERA.’’

Leah Borsboom was previously CERA’s Head of People Development. A former lawyer and human resources leader, Leah brings a wealth of professional experience to CERA.

“I’m really excited by the opportunity to further strengthen the research support services that underpin the important work of our scientists and researchers,’’ she says.

Managing Director Keith Martin congratulated Sarah and Leah on their appointments.

“Sarah and Leah are both accomplished professionals who will play critical roles in supporting CERA’s research into the future,’’ he says.

“They bring to CERA a breadth of experience in building relationships and developing organisational capacity which will help CERA build a strong foundation to bolster our research team’s important work to discover the origins of eye disease, prevent visual loss, restore vision and reduce the burden of blinding disease worldwide.
